The big industry news over the last couple of weeks has been CUNA's Bill Cheney making a career transition to lead SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union in California. So naturally we wanted to get to the bottom of this decision and invited Mr. Cheney on the program to divulge. And divulge he did, as Bill talked about what prompted his decision to venture back out to the left coast -- and it wasn't to learn how to surf or work on his tan.
We also touched on some of the successes and challenges he experienced during his tenure at CUNA, as well as some words of wisdom for the next candidate to lead the Credit Union National Association. So sit back and enjoy part 1 of this candid conversation with Bill Cheney. Visit: cuna.org schoosfirstfcu.org With the 2014 Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run in Washington, D.C., is in the books this past weekend and funds raised went to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals via Credit Unions for Kids, it's a another stellar start for the organization. After all, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals experienced a record-setting year in funds raised in 2012. As the organization finishes tallying the 2013 numbers, that total is looking quite comparable -- if not better -- as well. Credit unions annually step up to the plate via Credit Unions for Kids and give in record numbers. In fact, credit unions rank third behind Walmart and Costco as the top fund raisers for the organization. To find out why these numbers are exceeding all expectations (this is a good thing!), we invited Children's Miracle Network Hospital's President and CEO John Lauck on the program to gain more insight as to why credit unions are consistently top givers to this charity -- and how they can continue to get involved. We also talk about the connection between Credit Unions for Kids and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and where your donations go to help kids in need. Many thanks to John for joining us to give an update and how your credit union can contribute to this most worthy cause. Enjoy! Visit: childrensmiraclenetworkhospitals.org cu4kids.org Short on time? The credit union industry is loaded with fantastic technology products and services -- and it's really cool to see credit unions stepping out and pushing the limits of FI tech for their members' benefit. That said, we enjoy featuring such technology here at CUbroadcast because, well, we're geeks when it comes to this stuff. So when we stumbled across Passageways boardroom portal technology called OnBoard, we had to take a closer look.
We invited Passageways' Ratul Shah on the show to give us a quick tour of OnBoard, why they developed it, and what some of their first users are saying about it. So stick around for the interview's duration, as we have a bunch of cutaway shots showing the interface in action. And many thanks for Ratul being on the show and giving us a inside look on how they are helping make boardroom meeting prep a breeze for more efficient gatherings. Check it out. Visit: passageways.com This is no April Fool's joke: hunger is a very serious issue in America. Leading the charge to educate our country on this issue that seems to get swept under the rug is American Community Project's Dan Emery. Dan has already gone to great lengths to spread the word about hunger in America, but his endeavor in 2014 will prove to be his biggest yet. Dan and his friend Myles Chung have set out on a nationwide tour, "Exploring Hunger: 48 States in 48 Weeks," to let folks know about this issue and how they can help. They are hoping to raise $1 million that will be spread evenly to each state they visited to make a dent in this issue. And backing this venture are several credit unions -- once again stepping up to assist in yet another worthy cause. Check out this informative and funny interview with Dan during one of his stops to discover more about his and Myles' excellent adventure across our nation to address hunger in America. And if you're a credit union or industry vendor that would like to get involved with their trek, get off the couch now and help out! Chances are they will be coming to a town near you. Many thanks to CU Grow's James Robert Lay for bringing Dan's trek to our attention.
